Program Notes

Duet for Timpani and Dancer was written in 1991 for timpanist Thomas Fox. It was premiered at Lincoln Center the following year. The music offers a study in metric shifts and, as such, makes for an excellent concert etude. In its original form, it was conceived as a duet with a single dancer. However, it is also possible to perform this work as a timpani solo.
